Canaan Avalon A-Series Explained: A1346 to A15 Pro and A1566HA
Short answer: Canaan’s Avalon A-series are its full-size SHA-256 Bitcoin miners for farms and data centers. The two digits after the A give the generation (A13, A15), the digits after that separate models within it (A1346, A1366, A1566), and suffixes mark the cooling or tier: I for immersion, HA for hydro, and Pro, XP or SE within the A15 family. Canaan rates the air-cooled A1566 at 185 TH/s and 18.5 J/TH and the A15 Pro at 16.8 J/TH.
This guide decodes Avalon A-series names, lists the ratings for each model we stock, and explains what each cooling type needs on site. For Canaan’s small home units (Nano 3, Nano 3S, Mini 3 and Avalon Q), see our separate Canaan Avalon home miners comparison. Bitminers does not guarantee mining profitability.

Who makes Avalon miners
Canaan Inc. makes the Avalon range. Canaan says it was established in 2013 and shipped its first batch of ASIC-based Bitcoin mining machines under the Avalon brand that year, and it completed its Nasdaq IPO in 2019. Its American depositary shares trade on the Nasdaq Global Market under the ticker CAN, and its annual report for 2025 lists principal executive offices in Singapore. All of our Canaan machines are grouped on the Canaan brand page.
How to read an Avalon A-series name
Take the A1566HA and read it in three parts:
- A15: the generation. The A13 generation launched in 2022; the A1566 followed in 2024.
- 66: the model within that generation. In the A13 generation, Canaan rated the A1346 at 110 TH/s and 30 J/TH and the A1366 at 130 TH/s and 25 J/TH, so the higher number was the stronger model.
- HA: the cooling version, here hydro. An I suffix (A1366I, A1566I) marks the immersion version; no suffix means air cooling.
Two more naming habits are worth knowing. Canaan’s own SKUs often add the hashrate bin, as in A1566HA-500T or A15XP-206T, so “-206T” means a 206 TH/s unit, not a different model. And “Avalon Made” appears in the full names that spec databases and sellers use, as in “Avalon Made A1346”; it is the same unit Canaan calls the Avalon Miner 1346, not a separate product.
The A15 family: A15, A15 Pro, A15XP and A15SE
Canaan announced the A1566 in May 2024 at 185 TH/s and 18.5 J/TH. In November 2024 it announced an upgraded A15 series with four air-cooled tiers:
| Model | Canaan’s rated hashrate | Canaan’s rated efficiency |
|---|---|---|
| A15 Pro | at least 215 TH/s | 16.8 J/TH |
| A15XP | 200-212 TH/s | 17.8 J/TH |
| A15 | 188-203 TH/s | 18.8 J/TH |
| A15SE | 170-185 TH/s | 19.9 J/TH |
Note the order: the A15 Pro, not the A15XP, is the most efficient of the four. Rank Avalon models by J/TH rather than by the letters in the name. Our guide to hashrate, terahash and J/TH explains the units.
Ratings for each A-series model we list
Hashrate and efficiency are Canaan’s figures from its launch announcements, filings and shop pages; Canaan quotes a tolerance of about ±5% on hashrate and ±10% on power. Figures marked * come from independent spec databases because Canaan does not publish them for that unit. Prices are Bitminers prices at the time of writing (October 4, 2026), by listed hashrate.
| Model | Cooling | Rated hashrate | Power | Efficiency | Our listings |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Avalon Made A1346 | Air | 110 TH/s | 3,310 W | 30 J/TH | 107 TH/s: $380.00 |
| A1366I | Immersion | 119 TH/s* | 3,570 W* | 30 J/TH* | 119 TH/s: $453.23 |
| A1566 | Air | 185 TH/s | 3,420 W | 18.5 J/TH | 182, 185, 188, 191 and 194 TH/s: $2,100.00 each |
| A15 Pro | Air | at least 215 TH/s | 3,662 W at 221 TH/s* | 16.8 J/TH | 221 TH/s: $2,102.05 |
| A15XP | Air | 200-212 TH/s | 3,667 W at 206 TH/s* | 17.8 J/TH | 206 TH/s: $3,207.68; 209 TH/s: $2,594.30; 212 TH/s: $1,909.95 |
| A1566I | Immersion | 249-267 TH/s | 4,500 W at 249 TH/s* | about 18.1 J/TH* | 249 TH/s: $3,465.00; 255 TH/s: $3,292.64; 267 TH/s: $3,446.72 |
| A1566HA | Hydro | 460 or 500 TH/s | 8,200 W at 460 TH/s | 17.8 J/TH (460T), 16.8 J/TH (500T) | 460 TH/s: $5,431.71; 480 TH/s: $5,427.71; 500 TH/s: $5,903.00 |
Canaan’s A1566I range of 249-267 TH/s is stated without overclocking. For the A1566HA, Canaan’s shop lists 460T and 500T versions; the 480 TH/s version at 8,064 W appears in independent spec databases. The A1346 and A1366 ratings come from Canaan’s A13 launch announcement.

Site requirements by cooling type
Air-cooled: A1346, A1566 and the A15 family
These run at roughly 3.3-3.7 kW per unit with fans pushing air through the case, and spec databases list them at 75 dB. A hashrateindex test of the A1566 reported a 220-277 V power supply. Plan for 240 V circuits, intake and exhaust airflow, and heat removal from the room.
Immersion: A1366I and A1566I
The I models have no fans and run submerged in dielectric fluid inside an immersion tank. Spec databases list 220-277 V input for the A1566I. Our guide to immersion cooling for Bitcoin mining covers tanks and fluid, and the units are listed under immersion miners.
Hydro: A1566HA
The HA runs on a liquid coolant loop at about 8 kW per unit. Canaan specifies a coolant inlet temperature of 35-50 °C, and spec databases list 323-528 V input at 20 A, so it suits sites built for high-voltage power and a closed coolant loop. See our hydro-cooled miners.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the Avalon A1566 and the A15 Pro?
Both are air-cooled A15-generation miners. Canaan rates the A1566 at 185 TH/s and 18.5 J/TH and the A15 Pro at no less than 215 TH/s and 16.8 J/TH.
What does the I in Avalon A1566I mean?
It marks the immersion-cooled version. The A1566I has no fans and must run in a tank of dielectric fluid; Canaan rates it at 249-267 TH/s without overclocking.
Is the A15XP more efficient than the A15 Pro?
No. In Canaan’s A15 series announcement the A15 Pro is rated at 16.8 J/TH and the A15XP at 17.8 J/TH; the XP sits between the Pro and the standard A15.
What is an Avalon Made miner?
“Avalon Made” is part of the full name spec databases and sellers use for some Canaan models, such as the Avalon Made A1346. It is a Canaan Avalon miner, not a separate maker or a refurbished unit.
Which Avalon A-series miners need special cooling?
The A1366I and A1566I need an immersion tank, and the A1566HA needs a liquid coolant loop. The A1346, A1566 and A15 family are air-cooled.
