Antminer S19 Series Explained: Every Model, Suffix and Spec

Short answer: the Antminer S19 is Bitmain’s family of SHA-256 Bitcoin miners that launched in 2020, and every model name in it is the S19 base plus suffixes that mark the version and the cooling. Bitmain rates the original S19 at up to 95 TH/s and 34 J/TH, while the most efficient member, the S19 XP+ Hyd, is rated at 279 TH/s and 19 J/TH. “Pro”, “j”, “k”, “XP” and “+” mark newer or higher-rated versions; “Hyd” means liquid (hydro) cooling and “3U” means a rack-mount chassis.

This guide decodes each suffix, lists Bitmain’s rated hashrate, power and efficiency for twelve S19 models, and shows where the family sits next to the newer S21 and S23. Bitminers does not guarantee mining profitability.

Where the S19 fits: an older generation

Bitmain announced the Antminer S19 and S19 Pro on February 27, 2020, and both shipped from May 2020. Most of the family followed between 2021 and 2022: the S19j Pro (2021), the S19 XP (July 2022), the S19j Pro+ and the first hydro models (2022). A few later variants extended the line: the S19k Pro (2023), the S19j XP (2023), and the S19 XP Hyd 3U and S19 XP+ Hyd (both January 2025).

That makes the S19 an older generation than the Antminer S21, which Bitmain announced in October 2023, and the S23, which arrived in 2026. The gap shows up in efficiency: Bitmain rates the S21 at 17.5 J/TH and the S23 at 11 J/TH, against 21.5 J/TH for the S19 XP and 34 J/TH for the original S19. Lower J/TH means less electricity for the same hashrate; our guide to hashrate, terahash and J/TH explains the units.

What the S19 suffixes mean

Bitmain does not publish a glossary for its suffixes, so the meanings below are read from its own spec sheets: what changes between models with and without each letter.

  • Pro: a higher-rated version of the same model. The S19 Pro is rated at 105-110 TH/s against 82-95 TH/s for the S19, at 29.5-30.5 J/TH instead of 34-36 J/TH.
  • j: a later (2021) revision of the Pro platform, sold in more hashrate bins. Bitmain lists six S19j Pro ratings from 84 to 104 TH/s, all at 29.5 J/TH.
  • k: a 2023 revision. The S19k Pro has one Bitmain rating, 120 TH/s at 2,760 W (23 J/TH): more hashrate than the S19 Pro on less power.
  • XP: the most efficient S19 tier. The air-cooled S19 XP and S19j XP are both rated at 21.5 J/TH, against 29.5 J/TH for the Pro models.
  • + (plus): an improved version of the model it follows. The S19j Pro+ and S19 Pro+ Hyd are rated at 27.5 J/TH instead of 29.5 J/TH, and the S19 XP+ Hyd at 19 J/TH instead of the S19 XP Hyd’s 20.8 J/TH.
  • Hyd: hydro cooling. The hashboards are cooled by circulating liquid coolant rather than fans; Bitmain specifies coolant flow of about 8-10 L/min, a 20-40 °C inlet temperature and three-phase power (380-415 V on most Hyd sheets).
  • 3U: a rack-mount format. One rack unit (U) is 1.75 inches of height, so a 3U chassis fills three units of a standard rack. The S19 XP Hyd 3U is a 900 mm deep rack unit rated at 512 TH/s, roughly two S19 XP Hyd machines’ worth.

*Bitmain has no current spec page for the 3U model; these figures come from three independent spec databases that agree with each other. Bitmain quotes tolerances on its ratings, for example ±3% hashrate and ±5% power on the S19 XP specification page, so a working unit will not hit the exact figure. The original S19 specification page lists all five of its bins.

The air-cooled S19 models

Seven S19 models are air-cooled and run on 200-240 V single-phase power, except the S19j XP, which Bitmain rates for 220-277 V. The practical differences between them are hashrate, power draw and efficiency. Listings in our Antminer S19 series at the time of writing (October 4, 2026):

The S19 XP and S19j XP are easy to confuse. Both are rated at 21.5 J/TH; the S19j XP is rated higher (151 TH/s against 141 TH/s) and draws more power (3,247 W against 3,031.5 W).

The hydro-cooled S19 models

The five Hyd models trade fans for a liquid loop. They need three-phase power and an external cooling system with pumps and a heat exchanger, so they suit sites built for that infrastructure rather than a standard wall outlet. Our comparison of air cooling vs hydro cooling covers the setup, and all hydro units are grouped under hydro-cooled miners. At the time of writing (October 4, 2026):

Two naming traps apply here. The S19 Pro Hyd and the S19 Pro+ Hyd both have a 184 TH/s bin, but Bitmain rates them at 5,428 W and 5,060 W respectively. And the S19 XP Hyd (257 TH/s, 20.8 J/TH) is a different machine from the S19 XP+ Hyd (279 TH/s, 19 J/TH).

How to read an S19 listing

A listing name usually has three parts: the model, any suffixes, and the hashrate bin, as in “S19j Pro, 104 TH/s”. To check one:

  1. Decode the suffixes with the list above, so you know the cooling and the efficiency tier.
  2. Find the model in the table and confirm the listed hashrate falls inside Bitmain’s rated range.
  3. Estimate the power draw from the J/TH: within one model, every bin has the same efficiency, so a 104 TH/s S19j Pro at 29.5 J/TH draws about 3,068 W.
  4. Check your electrical supply: 200-240 V single-phase for most air models, three-phase 380-415 V for Hyd models.

S19 or a newer generation?

The main trade-off is efficiency against purchase price. An S19 model uses more electricity per terahash than an S21 or S23, so running costs per TH are higher at the same power price. Compare models on J/TH, the power and cooling your site can supply, and the purchase price, and use current hashprice and electricity data rather than any fixed estimate. Bitminers does not guarantee mining profitability.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the Antminer S19 and Antminer S19 Pro?

The S19 Pro is the higher-rated version. Bitmain rates it at 105-110 TH/s and 29.5-30.5 J/TH, against 82-95 TH/s and 34-36 J/TH for the S19. Both are air-cooled and launched in 2020.

Is the Antminer S19j Pro the same as the S19 Pro?

No. The S19j Pro is a 2021 revision sold in six bins from 84 to 104 TH/s, all at 29.5 J/TH. The S19 Pro is rated at 105 or 110 TH/s at 3,250 W.

What does XP mean on an Antminer S19?

XP marks the most efficient S19 tier: 21.5 J/TH for the air-cooled S19 XP and S19j XP, and 19-20.8 J/TH for the hydro XP models.

What does Hyd mean in Antminer model names?

Hyd means hydro (liquid) cooling. These units need a coolant loop and three-phase 380-415 V power rather than fans and a single-phase outlet.

When was the Antminer S19 released?

Bitmain announced the S19 and S19 Pro on February 27, 2020, and they shipped from May 2020. Later variants followed through 2023, with two hydro models in 2025.
